BURLEY PARK

Public BBQ

Burley Park sits quietly in Bullsbrook, though "quietly" might be generous given what I encountered. Arriving for a spot of geocaching, I was immediately struck by the contradictory nature of the place - prominent "no vehicles" signage at the entrance, yet a distinctly trampled chain barrier and a caravan setup complete with annexe occupying the grounds. The two residents seemed as surprised to see visitors as I was to find them there. The park does offer decent space for children to run about, which explains its family appeal, but there's an undeniably odd atmosphere that makes you wonder whether you're trespassing or they are. It's the sort of place that makes you check your map twice and question whether your GPS has led you astray. Functional for a quick stop, but I'd recommend calling ahead - if you can work out who to ring.
